La Festa Major de Gracia – the most colorful street festival in Barcelona

La Festa Major de Gracia is the most important event of Gracia district in Barcelona, one of the most emblematic neighborhoods of Barcelona. It begins on August 15 and lasts for 7 days, during which the streets, squares and balconies are decorated with colorful recycled materials and the visitants can enjoy a rich program of activities.

Each year an award is given to the best decorated street, the importance is put on originality and creativity. This time, 17 streets and squares will be decorated. Local people prepare decorations during months and there is always one chosen theme in common for every year.

This event is one of the liveliest in Barcelona, with hundreds of local and foreign visitors. Throughout the week you can enjoy free concerts, dance and theatre performances, wine or beer tastings, competitions, workshops, neighborhood dinners, exhibitions and lots more. The festival begins on August 15 with a parade through the streets of the neighborhood with music, dancing and giant statues. One of the biggest attractions are the performances of Castellers – a typical Catalan tradition of human towers.
