FLAMENCO IN BARCELONA
Who doesn’t know the popular Spanish dance Flamenco! If you visited Andalusia, you might see people dancing, singing and playing guitars on the street. These are the typical characteristics of Flamenco – dancing and music!
The origin of Flamenco
Flamenco is style of music and dance which origins are coming from Andalusia from the eighteenth century. In recent years, the popularity of flamenco has increased in Latin America for example in Guatemala, Costa Rica or in Panama. In Japan, Flamenco is so popular that you can find more flamenco schools than in Spain.
The main characteristics of Flamenco
Flamenco is an art including music and dance. In music, the singing and guitar are very important, although there are other instruments playing. The dance is very expressive and each body part has to move in a special manner: feet, legs, hips, waist, arms, hands, fingers, shoulders and head. This coordination of all body parts makes Flamenco very difficult to learn. The technique must be precise and sometimes it’s very complicated, because each guitar accord has its own movement.
Flamenco in Catalonia
The arrival of Flamenco to Catalonia was around the mid-nineteenth century. The main factor for the introduction and further development of Flamenco culture was the immigration of Andalusian and Catalan gypsies. Many Catalan artists took flamenco and everything related to Andalusia as a part of their inspiration and Catalonia is increasing the popularity of flamenco every day.
