Clot is one of the oldest centers of Sant Marti. It existed in medieval times, with the name of ClotumMelis. It was very rich town thanks to the orchards, vegetable gardens which provided Barcelona with fresh grocery products and among other products, high quality honey. The rural character of this area continued until the nineteenth century, that is why some of its streets or corners still evoke the agricultural past. In the beginnings of twentieth century the neighborhood had become an industrial and labor settlement with a major increase in population, mostly with the people from the rest of Spain. Through the years Clot has gradually lost its industrial character, moving or disappearing old factories and workshops. This has made possible the recovery of some large spaces for public use and has welcomed new residential deployments. The environment began to change with the extension of the Diagonal Avenue and La Meridiana, which over cross at Glories square.
Nowadays the area is residential and quiet; the buildings are new with spacious apartments, disposing of much more amenities than can offer the apartments in the historical centre of the city, ideal for the tourists who look for the quality and silent accommodation in the relaxing ambience. There are plenty of lovely parks and green zones (Clot Park), really pleasant place where to spend evening time walking along and winding down.
Glories is the continuation of Clot, both places are loaded with the commerce establishments, shops, bars restaurants, offices, souvenir stores, the half-open shopping mall Glories is here offering everything you need (branded stores, cinemas, fast food, supermarket, bars and many leisure sites). Glories Shopping Centre has 3 levels structured into 3 main buildings concentrated fashion, entertainment and food.
The Agbar Tower is another tourist interest point in the area. This multicolor crystal construction houses the administration of Barcelona“s water company Agbar Group. The tower is 144 meters high and has 38 floors and it is amazing to watch it at night when it is illuminated.
There are more places the tourists can visit during the stay in Barcelona like the National Theatre of Catalonia, the Auditorium, Plaza de Toros Monumental (bullring) etc.
The distance till the city centre is over 15 minutes by the underground; the famous Las Ramblas can be reached in 20 minutes by the public transport. The beaches are relatively close as well, at approximately 10 minutes travel. As you can observe, the district is residential but not too far from the tourist attraction places and the night life points. Clot and Glories are well connected with the rest of the city by the large net of the public transport, a number of municipal buses, trams, underground (Line 2, stops: Bac de Roda, Clot, Line 1, stops: Clot, Glories, Marina), night buses etc.
This district is really good choice for the people who search economic accommodation in a busy, commercial area, near all the attractive parts of Barcelona.
