At the end of the emblematic avenue Diagonal, recently is born a new district named Diagonal Mar, it is facing the sea and disposes with quality outdoor living spaces, full community facilities, playgrounds for children, supermarkets, shopping mall with the same name and lots of entertainment centers. Several luxury hotels and the office towers of the multinational companies are in a neighborhood as well.
One of the tourist attraction points in Diagonal Mar district is the Forum, now called the Blue Museum, because of its blue facade. It is a prism whose base is an equilateral triangle. It is situated at the beginning of the Diagonal Avenue in Barcelona and is the main symbol of the Universal Forum of Cultures held in 2004. During the Forum, many conferences were celebrated here, the protocol of the opening and closing ceremonies and hosted several exhibitions as well. From 2005 houses a museum about the future of the city of Barcelona and sustainable development.
Shopping Mall Diagonal Mar is the centre of entertainment and commerce of this district, the huge enclosure with plenty of clothes shops and boutiques, souvenir shops, bars, restaurants, terraces where to have a drink in summer evenings, cinemas, supermarkets, all kind of services you can need during your stay.
The beach is other tourist interest point here. It is just at a couple of minutes walking distance. These beaches are famous for being not as crowded as Barceloneta, the ambience is secure, quiet and pleasant. You will surely enjoy walking along the sea front or relaxing in the beach of Forum.
Port Forum is located in this district as well; it’s a new yacht club that is getting famous for its sport competitions.
Generally the area is residential and quiet; the buildings are new due to its recent planning. The apartments use to be spacious, new built of high quality, with communal swimming pools, gardens, nice views on the sea and much more amenities than can offer the apartments in the historical centre of the city, ideal for the tourists who look for the quality and luxury accommodation. The visitors can find all sorts of commerce establishments here as well. There is a modern lovely park named Diagonal Mar, with a small lake inside. Along the coastline Poniente there is a new real-estate sector named Front Maritim, which consists in 5 housing islands with central gardens. Behind them, there is a group of islands where ancient structures coexist with the industrial area of Pellaires street, now restored and transformed into modern workshops and studios.
The district is well communicated with the city centre, a number of municipal buses, Underground (Line 4, stops: El Maresme / Forum, Selva de Mar, Besós Mar), Tram (Stops: Forum de les Cultures, Parada Central Térmica) will take you to the heart of the city in 15 – 25 minutes approximately.
