The Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona is an impressive place to hear works by Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, Rossini, Pucinni and Straus. For the last two centuries some of the most important singers have performed there, including Pavarotti, Domingo, Callas, Caballe and Tebaldi. People of all ages come to enjoy the nightly shows on a regular basis. Visitors can expect to see opera, ballet, contemporary dance, concerts and recitals. There is also a cinema that screens theatre-related features, such as the film versions of Shakespeare plays.

The building itself is a sight to see too, and if you're not so interested in theatre you may still enjoy a guided tour of the building's architecture. You will have access to both the public and private areas of the theatre, including the stage, rehearsal area, wardrobe department and make-up rooms.

The Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Theatre del Liceu in Barcelona has a long history. This resident orchestra plays in the theatre as well as touring the whole of Europe. Since 1960 there has also been the Chorus of the Gran Theatre del Liceu, a male and female choir.

The theatre is conveniently situated about halway down Las Ramblas, near the Metro station Liceu. There is entertainment offered for various groups such as schools, families and seniors. Special rates are offered for these visitors. Performances take place throughout the afternoon and evening, usually from around 3pm onwards.
