Fast food is anathema to the Spanish style of eating which traditionally involves several hearty courses over the course of a couple of hours. (After all, the two hour lunch break wasn´t invented for nothing!) However, Barcelona caters for all tastes and styles, and particularly the fact that many tourists are here on a tight schedule with much to see in a short space of time. So, for those in a rush, there are the familiar faces of MacDonalds, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken… Although if in holiday in Spain, why not at least try some Spanish fast food chains?!
Probably the most widespread throughout Barcelona is Pans & Company, easily spotted for its bright yellow signs, it´s a sandwich shop offering hot and cold options and meal deals. Almost identical is Bocatta, another sandwich chain but with a green sign. Still on the sandwich theme is Sandwich and Friends, which has a slightly wider selection of bread and fillings. Maoz is a chain of falafel shops, a good venue for vegetarians; you can choose exactly what goes into your pitta from various options laid out before you.
If it is a late night snack you are after, head to the Raval district. The Rambla de Raval has endless kebab shops with lots of meat on sticks, plus the recent, very English addition of a fish and chip shop, serving up traditional fish and chips, sausages in batter and steak and kidney pies to take away.
