Although slightly off the beaten path for most visitors to Barcelona, a day out to "Catalunya en miniatura" (Miniature Catalunya) is good fun if you have the time to spare. It is located just outside of Barcelona in Torrelles de Llobregat, about 45 mins away on public transport. The largest miniature theme park in the world, and the only one of its kind in Spain, Catalunya en miniatura recreates the most important monuments and buildings in Catalunya using handcrafted models! So if you have ever felt the urge to look down on Sagrada Familia rather than gazing up at it, this is certainly the place to come.
The park contains over 150 models reproduced on a scale of 1:25, including all of GaudíŽs major works, and there is even a small train to take visitors around the sights which children will particularly enjoy.Immense care is put into the creation of the models; each one is built directly from the original building’s architectural plans in order to be completely accurate. As well as hoping to teach visitors about the significance of each of the buildings and structures, the park aims to educate visitors about the cultural history of Catalunya, from the people’s customs and traditions to their folklore and eccentricities. The park also has a picnic area and a small amphitheatre where clowns entertain little ones every Sunday and holiday at 1pm.
