Barcelona´s Textile and Clothing Museum is a must for fashion lovers and is located in the suitably glamorous area of El Born where many small designer boutiques are to be found. Housed in two linked medieval palaces in the same road as the Picasso Museum, the contents are essentially anything to do with materials for decorating the body and therefore range from clothes, jewellery and accessories to fabrics and industrial textiles.
Having a peek at historical undergarments is great fun, the area of embroidery and lace delightful, but fashionistas will be most drawn to the ´historic fashions´ section, donated by the collector Manual Rocamora. Elegantly displayed on mannequins and running from the Baroque to the 20th century there are some wonderful clothes here and it is considered one of the best fashion collections worldwide.
The museum’s restaurant (Téxtilcafè) is another attraction; there are a few tables set outside in the elegant Renaissance courtyard and it offers excellent food at reasonable prices with live music on Sunday nights! (€5 extra)
