Dedicated wax museum enthusiasts asides, there are probably worthier places to visit in Barcelona if you are on a short holiday, but if you are after some light relief after an excess of Gaudí it is an amusing enough place to while away some time.
Located at the bottom of the Ramblas, close to the sea, Barcelona´s Wax Museum proudly describes its display as showing the most prominent figures in the history of humanity; Luke Skywalker will undoubtedly be extremely flattered. The collection is housed in an impressive 19th century neoclassical palace and the ´guests´ that visitors meet on their tour around its rooms were laid out by a famous set designer for maximum theatrical effect.

After meeting both Salvador Dalí and Prince Charles on the same afternoon, visitors will surely be in need of a strong drink, so it is fortunate that one of Barcelona´s most bizarre bars is housed next to the museum in the palace grounds.

El Bosc de les Fades (The Fairy Wood) is a bar filled with trees, gnomes and other fantastical creatures, some seriously dark corners and the odd flash of lightening to interrupt the merry-making. If the wood is too full, there may be more space in the origami section. You can come for a drink here without having to admire the waxworks.
