Often missed by visitors to Barcelona for not having any major tourist attractions, Poble Nou is a lovely part of the city that still retains some village character.Set close to the sea past Barceloneta and the Olympic Village, it is an ideal for a peaceful holiday close to the beach.The main focus of the area is the Rambla de Poble Nou, a long, tree-lined pedestrian boulevard very similar to its more famous neighbour in the centre, but happily without the throng of tourists and human statues.
There are plenty of cafes ideal for open-air eating or watching the world go by where you are unlikely to be harassed by rose-sellers or serenaded by accordion players as is so often the case in more touristy areas.The nearest beach is Mar Bella which is considered by many to be the best of the city’s many beaches.

Surprisingly for a residential area, Poble Nou is also home to some of Barcelona´s most important nightclub.Razzmatazz is the largest club in Europe with a capacity of 5,000 partygoers; there are 5 different rooms with music to suit all tastes and it also hosts live concerts by the biggest names in music.
In times gone by Poble Nou was once an industrial area; it is now set to become the technological heart of the city as it undergoes the most significant urban redevelopment in Barcelona in recent years.Known simply as 22@, the idea is to regenerate the area with a massive construction plan that will entirely change and update this part of town.One building already in place is the notorious cylindrical AgbarTower, similar in design to London´s Gherkin but with a rather less polite nickname, it is often lit up at night and has become a familiar feature of Barcelona´s skyline.It is to be hoped that the current tranquillity of Poble Nou, particularly the streets around the Rambla, will not be too disturbed by the modernisation nearby; the area has succeeded in retaining the feeling of a traditional Catalan village and it is this which makes it such an attractive part of town.
